Poem for Cricket

They will not go quietly,
the pets who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirits still survive.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a paw upon the door.
We step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
and, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill.
that one place in our hearts
belongs to them....
and always will.
~~Poet Unknown~

I missed you more today Cricket. Maybe it was because I had to stop at the dog park and look for your Dad's cell phone. He took Maggie there this afternoon and while there, lost it. It was hard going there with out you, all alone. Everyone was there with their dogs. Except me. I was quiet and tried not to show my pain.

As I combed the dog park, my mind kept thinking of you. I know you were there. Your presence was felt in the breeze, the sound of the other dogs at play, and especially in my own heart. Thinking I would cry at any moment, for some reason I didn't. It was because you were with me. I know this now.

So tonight, I came home and my friend Lori sent me this poem. It was perfect timing.

I miss you little one.

Love,
Momma

Ruby Belle - A baby grows!

Here is a short video of Rubicon, also known as Ruby Belle. My Cavalier King Charles puppy is growing by the day. She is very spirited, and yet very tender. She is always ready for a good cuddle. I love her more and more each day. When I look at this video and see her chewing on her own foot, I see how far she has grown and laugh.

Please enjoy this brief pictorial of Miss Ruby Belle.

Happy New Year!

Justice For Cricket

Justice for Cricket

Dear Cricket,
I lay awake crying last night for hours. I know it will not bring you back. You would be there to comfort each tear as it used to fall from my face. I missed you. Today, I feel weaker than on most days since your death.

Recently, the owners of the dog that killed you had to go to court. They voluntarily put their dog down. I feel badly for this as you know, I would never have asked for it. I know they grieve too. They do not have their dog this Christmas either. The owner charged, is facing a $1500 fine and the possibility of 30 days in jail.

Dear little friend, I must ask your permission to go before the judge and ask the court to not send the other dog owner to jail. It is not that you are not worth justice. But you being the gentle, loving friend you were, I do not feel you would want this either. We put too many people in jail in our country and I cannot bear it. I at the same time cannot bear the loss of you either.

Please give me permission to advocate for the other dogs owner? I need some sign from you.

I know you are not on this side of the veil anymore to comfort me in this decision. I grieve you like no other. God Bless you my darling Cricket.

You know this valley up in our mountains. I will see you there someday....someday, but not today.

Love,
Momma

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - Ruby Belle

(Photgraphy by Christine McClintock, Copyright 2010 - All Rights Reserved)

It has been so difficult to adjust to the lost of my service dog. I am a survivor after all as many who know me in life can testify. So it is with great pleasure I introduce you to my new service dog in training, little Ruby Belle.

Here is a video I put together of her the first day I met her at her breeders home, which by the way is a wonderful woman named Charlene Reed.

What a peach! It is easy to see why this little one caught my eye. She was born September 2, 2010.

Here is Charlene Reeds website to visit
Here

It is really worth a look. If you are looking to have a Cavalier, she raises her dogs, in a home enviroment. I can so easily tell this. I hate to use the word puppy mill, but it is a fact out that they are out there in this world.

Charlene's dogs are all healthy and have seen a Vet who specializes in Cavaliers several times for shots and check-ups before you ever meet them. She is what we dream of in a breeder. I feel so very lucky to have found such a dedicated breed of my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

A picture of Miss Ruby Belle in all her beauty.

I am happy to report she is training very fast. She has learned her French commands very well and rings bells at command. I am going to have so much fun and gain a sense of healing from this exceptional, intelligent, and loving service dog and new best friend.
