An Exceptional Butterfly

I know this exceptional butterfly. She is talented and very passionate about life. In a few days she will have a birthday, her 29th. How could a butterfly live so very long you say? Well, for this butterfly it is true, life has been a challenge at times. But her life force is so very strong and she is so very determined, nothing can stop her. Well except one thing....

Sometimes this butterfly gets stuck in life flying around trying to please everyone else. Danger lurks around every corner. Today, I found this precious life trapped behind a hot window and I being so gentle, set her free. Today was a good day. My favorite butterfly is again flying free.

Happy Birthday Butterfly...

The Full Buck Moon

I thanked him for lending me his image and spirit and promised to tell his story...

The Full Buck Moon is in reference to the month of July. I just happened to meet this exquisite Buck on a back country hike in Colorado on July 4th, 2011. My dear Irish friend, Aine Mac Aodha tells me that there is a story to go with this.

"July usually the month when the new antlers of young deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the 'Full Thunder Moon', as thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month’s Moon was the 'Full Hay Moon.'

Thank-you Aine. Together you in Ireland, and me here in Colorado, we are two Lassies thinking the same thing. You with the story and me with the picture to go with it.

Gra, Christine

The Tree That Bent

Photography by Christine McClintock Hudspeth

The Tree That Bent

Told that we must learn the art of compromise in life.
To bend if one is going to survive challenges.
Reminded that those trees who never bend,
nor offer compromise, break and are destined to die,
and not survive in the great forest of life.

Being one such tree who bent and compromised.
Giving into my three little saplings who always cried.
Sharing the sunshine I had earned in right,
hoping it would help them grown to see the light.

Years later, I am like this tree who bent,
stripped of pine needles because of neglect.
For you see I bent when it was my turn to stand tall.
Foolishly thinking I was answering a call.

So to you I say, only sway with the breeze
with issues of the heart and your children.
In matters of principle be firmly resolute.
Stand strong in your beliefs and do not bend.
Your life and theirs, this one thing does depend.
